Hello There,
My name is Jamie Post. I’m a resident of the Jasper Place area, in Edmonton’s west-end. A techy by day, I devote much of my free time to volunteering in and around my community. I joined the Glenwood Community League as it’s City Liaison Director in 2009. As the league’s civics director, I jumped headfirst into neighborhood revitalization, planning and development matters, and of course, the debate over corridor selection for the West LRT. My Community League work led me join the Jasper Place Revitalization, where I served as a member of the Steering Committee, and have volunteered time to the Stony Plain Road Business Revitalization Zone’s Marketing Committee. Which led to the wonderful opportunity to work as editor of the area’s community newspaper, the Stony Plain Road Urban Revitalization Report. I’m the district e representative on the Edmonton Federation of Community Leagues planning & development committee (where I’ve worked on civic matters ranging from social housing distribution to cellular tower policy), president and a founding member of the Friends of Jasper Place, and the Alberta Party Edmonton-Meadowlark Constituency Association. As well, I was a member of the Mature Neighborhood Sustainability committee of the Mayor’s Community Sustainability Task Force.
My volunteer activities have given me a wonderful first-hand view of the way our city operates, and the direction I believe it needs to head into the future. All of this lead me to seek the Ward 1 City Council seat in the 2010 election. While I was unsuccessful in winning the seat, months of intense door knocking and campaigning have served as education in running in a municipal campaign, and a further look at the issues and concerns within the Ward. I’m planning to continue my volunteer work, and will, in future, consider again seeking a seat on Edmonton’s City Council.
If you arrived here looking for my 2010 City Council campaign site, you can find it archived at JamiePost.com/Main. As I said before, working as a community volunteer provides an up close look at the functioning of our city, and the process of municipal decision making. I’ll be updating the site frequently with my thoughts on civic policy, and the issues and concerns which I believe are of interest and importance to Edmonton, and Ward 1 residents. I’m a strong supporter of government transparency, and it is my goal through this, to shed light on the level of government with which we interact every single day of our lives. The decisions City Council and Administration make, affect how we live, work, play, and everything in between. I can always be reached by email at contact @ jamiepost.com.
Cheers, and thanks for visiting!
